Edge reports that GTA VI keeps a record of what kind of criminal you are, on a Criminal Profile that runs from Professional to Irredeemable.
Edge issue 430 went on sale on October 29 with GTA VI on the cover. The magazine was invited to Rockstar North, where co-studio head Rob Nelson played the game live for 90 minutes. The cover story, by Simon Parkin, also features Aaron Garbut and Phil Hooker of Rockstar North. One of the new systems Edge describes is the Criminal Profile.
Professional or Irredeemable
The profile tracks how you play. It runs from Professional at one end to Irredeemable at the other, and it is shown with an angel and a devil icon.
You don’t have to kill
According to Edge, you can knock enemies out, or threaten them first, instead of killing them. Shoot first and ask questions later, and your profile turns violent.
It changes the story
Rockstar says the profile shapes how Jason and Lucia’s story unfolds.
What it does not offer is a way out. You choose what kind of criminal you are, not whether you are one.
Part 2 of the series covers what Edge learned about Jason and Lucia’s relationship.
GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-load opens November 12.
