Edge reports that some drivers in GTA VI panic and flee when you take their car, while others are armed and ready to fight back.
Stealing a car in GTA VI is a gamble. That is one of the takeaways from Edge issue 430, whose cover story is built on 90 minutes of the game played live by Rob Nelson at Rockstar North. Nelson had no script and went wherever the game took him.
Some drivers run, some don’t
Edge says some drivers panic and run. Others are armed, and the driver you carjack might fight back.
Trackers and theft reports
Newer, expensive cars can have a tracker that keeps sending out your location. The owner can also report the theft.
Fuel and engine health
Every car has a fuel gauge and engine health.
Your own car, delivered
Need your own ride? The Scooter Bros app sends someone to drop it off, with your weapons in the trunk.
Random encounters
Random encounters can pull you off course. Edge reports that during one escape, kids in a lifted 4x4 bullied Nelson into a street race. If you would rather leave the driving to someone else, Edge reports there are working buses and trains.
Part 4 covers how big Leonida really is.
GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-load opens November 12.
